Ca Marí in Playa Migjorn
The beach of Ca Marí is situated in the area of Playa Migjorn, one of the most extensive sandy areas of Formentera and occupies almost the entire southern part of the island. Ca Marí is of easy access as it can be accessed by car or motorbike almost to the point where the sand meets the sea. It is a beach with lots of sand and often also with remains of Posidonia brought by ocean currents. Ca Marí near Playa Migjorn is a small beach formed by shells where tourists can find all sort of services such as hammocks, sunbeds, watersports clubs, restaurants and beach clubs.
This whole area is highly recommended as swimmers can take long walks on the beach without excessive overcrowding of tourists. Ca Marí also has wooden walkways offering the highest comfort. This area is perfectly suited for disabled people since it has all facilities to access the seashore and venues. Throughout the entire area of Migjorn we find several areas with different names like Pelayo area, the area of Ca Marí, Còdol Foradat and many others that together form the long beach of Migjorn, also called Playa Migjorn. From this part of the island visitors can also enjoy beautiful sunsets hiding from behind the Es Cap de Barbaria.
Ca Marí is the area closer and less crowded from all beaches of Migjorn, but at the same time it contains the most genuine and authentic beach bars and restaurants frequented by local people from the island such as the Sun Splash, Pelayo and Sa Platgeta. The sand of this beach is much finer and of a golden tonality, unlike the beaches of the nearby natural park of Ses Salines, in the northwest of the island, which have a much whiter and thicker type of sand. The seawater in Ca Marí has an emerald turquoise colour while it turns bluer and more crystalline as we walk towards other areas of Playa Migjorn.
Finally going towards the cliffs, there is a kind of small harbour quite sheltered and surrounded by some sand. It is called Caló d'es Mort: tourists need to pass a beach bar in a wooded setting with pine trees and then reach an area with almost yellowish stones and barely no vegetation. A few meters down we finally discover the cove. Water here is very crystalline and transparent, perfect for a dip under the hot sun. Be aware! This is a nudist area, so don’t be confused if you see naked bodies sunbathing on the rocks. Very traditional in Formentera!
