The paradise island of Formentera will become an epicenter of jazz music in the Mediterranean waters presenting its first edition of Jazz Festival taking place on the 5th, 6th and 7th of June 2015!

Formentera Jazz Festival (FJF) was born from the artistic curiosity inspired in its well-travelled artistic inhabitants and visitors. Throughout its history, the smallest island of the Pitiusas has always been visited by great names from Jules Verne to ob Dylan, Gilberto Gil, Pink Floyd or Bob Marley in the 60s and 70s. With all its wonderful history, surroundings and free spirit Formentera is the perfect location to host such an unique musical event waking up all the poetry the island hides.

Based on the initiative of the musician and cultural producer Maxwell Moya, raised in Formentera, an ex-member of the legendary Ojos de Brujo and now a teacher at the Berklee College of Music, together with the support of the Island Council, the festival opens its doors to Plaça de Sant Francesc, Cine de Sant Francesc and the Blue Bar at Platja Migjorn.

The kick-off for the 3 days spree of concerts, activities, music and fun will be celebrated with an “Opening Roundtable” on Friday the 5th at 12pm in the Municipal Cinema of Formentera. The ceremony will be presented by the director of the whole jazz festival, Max Moya Wright, by Ulises Pistolo Eliza, creator of Pronóstica and by the Russian-Cuban professional musician and professor of SedaJazz, Alexey León. They will discuss the origin and history of jazz, its paths and meaning of improvisation both in jazz and contemporary music in general.

Further on you can enjoy many concerts and performances from stars like Max Moya, who has been professional percussionist for more than 15 years, previously been a percussionist for the renowned international band Ojos de Brujo which he has collaborated with in more than 20 albums or Mel Semé, a Cuban singer and multi-instrumentalist, a professional musician with more than 20 years of experience and many more.

Children are also very welcomed to FJF as the festival has thought about many cool activities! Max Moya and Mel Semé will teach music workshops about singing and drumming for kids of all ages. There will be music games, debates, lessons and much more to awake the musical spirit of the young ones and to encourage their creativity.

The festival will triumph in a big way of jam session among the locals of the island and all the musicians invited to the festival. Look forward to an exciting mash of the duo of voice and guitar Mel Semé and voice and sax Alexey Reyes León, a renowned Cuban trumpeter Carlos Sarduy, local musicians XBlues Connotation, Golfo of Guinea and Fred Guzzo along the remarkable voices of  Ganavya Doraiswamy and Nêga Lucas!
